Library Cards
You must present a currently valid Webster Groves Public Library card, or a card from one of the eight other Municipal Library Consortium Libraries to check out or renew materials, to use public access PCs, or to access information in your account.
Residents, city employees, property owners, clergy, directors of service institutions, teachers at Webster Groves schools, and some temporary residents are eligible for a free Webster Groves Public Library card. Photo ID and verification of your current address will be required in order to get a card.
Applicants age seventeen or younger must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian. The parent/legal guardian completes the application for the minor, providing parental ID and proof of residence.
By signing the library card for the minor, the parent/legal guardian agrees:
- to comply with all library rules and policies;
- to be responsible for all materials borrowed on the account;
- that they are solely responsible for the materials (physical and digital) and services their child checks out, views, or accesses at the library, including the Internet;
- that library staff cannot monitor or control their child’s access in the library.
A parent or legal guardian may have their minor’s library card revoked at any time. The parent or legal guardian must make the request in person. Any bills on a minor’s account must be resolved prior to library staff purging it from the system.
We are a member of the Municipal Library Consortium of St. Louis County (MLC). The Webster Groves Public Library card works at all other Consortium libraries: Brentwood, Ferguson, Kirkwood, Maplewood, Richmond Heights, Rock Hill, University City, and Valley Park. Cardholders at those libraries may use their cards at Webster Groves Public Library. If you are a resident of one of those library districts, you must have a library card from your home library; then you may use it here.
If you do not find what you need within the collections of the MLC, reciprocal agreements have also been set up with St. Louis County Library, St. Louis (city) Public Library, St. Charles City/County Library, Jefferson County Library, and Scenic Regional Library. As a Webster Groves resident, you may get a free library card at any of those library systems. Residents of those library districts can get a Webster Groves Public Library card at no charge (or a card from any other Consortium library, which can then be used at Webster).
Any child who does not meet the above requirements but attends a public school of the Webster Groves School District is eligible for a student card at an annual fee of $3.00.
Any other non-residents may obtain a card for a $50.00 annual fee.
